Having been born and raised in the Midwest, I can say with great confidence there is a common assumption that Wisconsin is filled with only lush farms, grazing cows, TONS of cheese and delicious beer. Well, I can tell you it’s true. But, there’s a very romantic side to Wisconsin as well. Milwaukee, the heartbeat of Wisconsin, neighbors the vast Lake Michigan. At dawn, the sun quietly salutes the water as it awakens into the sky, and at dusk the golden sun slowly falls behind the glorious skyline with shades of pink, purple, and orange, like a watercolor painting. Meanwhile, sail boats smoothly glide back into their marina; distant laughter is heard off in the moonlit distance. The Milwaukee area offers countless locations for the perfect proposal.
One of my favorite Milwaukee proposal locations is the historic Third Ward. If you’ve been there, then you’ve experienced the fun, warm, upbeat vibes. The wide varieties of restaurants, shopping, and art, prove to be the foundations of such a spectacular area in Milwaukee. In addition, the Third Ward is home to some of the best photography spots, including the Riverwalk, which caresses the Milwaukee River. You can even rent kayaks to get a unique view of our beautiful Cream City. Needless to say, a day in the Third Ward would be an excellent choice for the romantic and action loving couples.
One of our top Milwaukee proposal locations is right on the shores of Lake Michigan. Lakeshore state park is the only urban state park in Wisconsin. Its 22 acres are located next to the architectural wonder of the Milwaukee Art Museum. This is one of my top Milwaukee proposal locations. It truly offers 360 degrees of picturesque beauty; one side offers stunning views of the Milwaukee skyline, while the other has the best views of Lake Michigan, crisp blue waters stretching on to a forever horizon. Serving as a gateway between the two, stands a long and wide walking bridge, a perfect spot to wander with your sweetie before popping the question. Lakeshore State Park
If you’re seeking a more intimate, environment, I’d highly recommend venturing on the 120 mile bike or walking trail, with access points surrounding Milwaukee County. It ranges from flat and rural to hilly urban streets. However, my favorite access points are in quiet South Milwaukee, which are surrounded by meadows, long grass, fields full of goldenrods and Queen Anne’s lace. The great thing about these trails is you can go as far as you’d like to venture. Feel free to go on a bike ride, pack a picnic, or enjoy a hike together. Oak Leaf Trail
If you want are looking for unique Milwaukee proposal locations check Grant Park! to have several landscape options all in one place, consider this park. It offers some of the most diverse scenery, including bridges, beaches, flower patches, and acres of meadows and woods. In autumn, the trees are blazing with the rich colors Wisconsin is famous for. Stroll hand in hand while walking the bluffs of Lake Michigan, or descend the stone steps that lead to the countless bridges and endless stretching of beach. One of my favorite spots in Grant Park is the pond with the large weeping willow keeping watch over it. There’s something so romantic about weeping willows and their arching branches, as if to protect whatever is under them. If you are still and wait, various forms of wildlife will make an appearance. Rest assured, there are countless areas in this park to swoon your sweetheart.
If you love everything nautical, then you’ve met your perfect location. This lighthouse is set on acres of beautiful grounds in Racine. Besides being by the water, there is a well-kept flower garden that faces Lake Michigan. Walk the sandy shore barefoot, look through the old telescope for the city of Milwaukee, or skip rocks on the glassy water. The lighthouse is beautiful, and you can even book a tour to climb the tower. Either way, this is an excellent location for a romantic proposal. Wind Point Lighthouse
Though this may be a stretch from Milwaukee, it is worth the trip nonetheless, even if just to walk this romantic pier. Lake Geneva is known for their boat tours on Geneva Bay, this is an absolute must if you make it out here. The bay is nestled amongst some of the most grand and beautiful houses around, the history of the houses are explained on the cruises. Downtown offers a variety of shopping, ice cream parlors, spas, and endless options of restaurants. But be sure to visit the pier before you go. If you decide that you’d like to extend your stay, the exquisite Grand Geneva Resort is a very popular and well-known spot for sweethearts. Surrounded by boats and water, it’s like you too are on your own little island, the perfect spot for an intimate proposal.
One of Milwaukee’s many architectural beauties is the Lions Bridge located in Lake Park. This stunning sandstone bridge is home to lion statues at each end, with ornate metal railings. Lions Bridge offers beautiful views of the lake and a perfect spot for a proposal. It’s in a semi-secluded location, surrounded by trees and plenty of trails for walking. It’s close proximity to Lake Michigan offers an opportunity for a romantic stroll by the water at sunset.
In summer, these woods are green and lush, but come fall, the colors are just rich in oranges and reds. Winter brings a surreal wonderland type feel, as you walk along the trails covered in powdery snow; everything is still and quiet. No matter which trail you wonder on, the scenery is cozy, romantic, and perfect for an intimate proposal without any audiences. The trails are easy to walk, very flat, and you’ll come across an occasional bridge that crosses a small creek. If your sweetheart is a nature lover, come check this spot out for your proposal. This beautiful park offers a perfect blend of close proximity to downtown Milwaukee and a rural park atmosphere. The South Shore Terrace is nestled right on the water in this park, which offers a beer garden, delicious food, and of course gorgeous views of the city. On Saturdays there is a large farmers market which is frequented by all the locals. The park offers paved paths throughout, giving you easy access to walk the lakefront as you soak in the lake breeze. Whether this ends up being your proposal site, or a stop along the way, many laughs and sweet moments can be made here. South Shore Park
