Featured St Louis Proposal – A Creative Barn Proposal

A Creative St Louis barn proposal

Congratulations to Sam and Hannah on their beautiful engagement.

Let us start this featured proposal with one of the best quotes we have received thus far.

Sam explains why Hannah is the one, “All my life I’ve thrived when someone told me I couldn’t. I think the fact that she was so difficult made me that much more determined to make her mine. Every new experience I shared with her, good or bad, just confirmed to me that she was the one.”

Sam’s meticulously planned proposal took Hannah on a journey from the start of their love to the present. Their story started early in their lives and blossomed over time.

Sam explains his persistence, “Hannah and I met in 7th grade track. I saw her and immediately tried to get to know her, but she was having none of it. I tried talking to her friends and I tried to get her number so we could text, but nothing worked.

She never had a boyfriend and didn’t really hang out with guys, so it wasn’t a huge surprise that she wanted nothing to do with me. I tried on and off for the rest of high school, but had no luck.

Every time I saw her in the hallway I would shout her name and try to walk with her to class. She would often humor me by making small talk. Then something amazing happened on the first day of high school our freshmen year. The one glorious day that changed my luck!

All I could think was how much I wanted to be in the same class as her with that first day. I had made it all the way to the last class but still had not seen Hannah. I walked into my last class and there she was!

A look of terror overcame her face when she realized that she was going to have to deal with me everyday for the entire year. Her last name was Faulkner and mine is Fink, so we sat right next to one another. After a lot of effort from me and minimal response from her, I finally got her number.

We texted on and off, but at the end of the year I had concluded she was far more annoyed by me than interested.”

We said Sam was persistent. He goes on the tell us, “Luckily the following year I learned she had a small crush on me. I played soccer for the high school team and we were going to state one weekend late in the first semester. She came to cheer us on and after we won the semi-final I asked her to be my girlfriend. She said yes!

We dated for a few months until unfortunately she broke up with me. We spent some time apart but decided to start hanging out again. I asked her to be mine (this time forever), on my birthday. We haven’t separated since that day! We both play sports so she went to Kent State University to play field hockey, while I went to Wake Forest to play soccer. We remained together through all the new experiences and change that college brings and I proposed shortly after graduating.”

As you can tell Sam has always loved Hannah.  He is a man who knows what he wants and that persistence has certainly paid off.   With the long journey that has brought them to this moment in their lives a special proposal is very fitting.

Sam tells us how he planned the perfect St Louis proposal to match their love story.  Through research and creative thinking, the key’s to a great proposal.

“I proposed at a friend’s barn. When I decided I wanted to propose I watched YouTube researching for hours because I wanted the proposal to be the most special day ever. I loved the feel of a barn and loved that there were so many ways to surprise her in it. I explained this to her mom and she said, I know the perfect place! We went to visit shortly after and she was right, it could not have been a more perfect fit.

I proposed on August 7, 2015. She was living in Florida selling real estate, while I was playing soccer in Saint Louis (home). That weekend was one of the few that she was going to be home to visit so it had to be then.”

Sam continues on how he hid his St Louis proposal plans but also convinced Hannah to unknowingly participate.

“First we had her come home and plan a party for her parents. The party was on August 7th and she did all the decorating, called in the food trucks, invites, etc. She was actually setting up our engagement party, but of course she didn’t know that! Her parents acted like they were running late and that she needed to go pick up her little brother from a friend’s house.

That friend happened to live where the barn was. Hannah’s little brother called her over to the barn and give her a note. The note told her to go inside the barn and that I would see her soon. Once inside the barn, there was a path laid out in rose petals and photos strung along the walls. The photos started with the earliest days of our relationship in high school and ended with our most recent adventures. At the end of the path there was a door, with the words ‘see you soon’ written on it.

I was on the other side waiting for her inside a heart of red and white rose petals with our favorite love songs playing. She came in and I told her how much I loved her and then proposed!” Hannah was completely surprised and gave the answer Sam had been waiting his whole life for, Yes!

After Sam proposed they walked out the back door where all of their family and friends were waiting to surprise Hannah. After this we they went back to their pre-planned engagement party.

Sam gave Hannah a beautiful two-halo ring, which Hannah had hinted at on a previous trip to Costco.

Sam had great support from his friends and family. Randy and Beth Gori let him use their beautiful barn. Hannah’s mom and dad worked tirelessly to get the barn clean and looking how Sam wanted. Sam’s mother, grandmother, and sister came to clean/set up for many days as well. Also all of Sam and Hannah’s friends, many who flew in from out of town and helped surprise her. It is clear this couple has the support of a lot of people who love them.

Sam also was able to capture the magical moment by hiring the talented Arndt Photo & Cinema. A family out of the Belleville, IL, area that did video and photography for both our their proposal and our wedding.

It is clear that Sam’s dedication to Hannah goes above and beyond. We know that his persistence and their love will last a lifetime.
